"Matsuri" means "festival", and this was based on a picture I took at one of the many small festivals in Japan I went to during my year-long trip in

2003-2004. The festivals are somewhat akin to American summer carnivals, but they happen all year round, and they are a bit more relaxed in tone;

simple fun events (with no rides, and much smaller games). I actually find the matsuri to be preferable, not least because the food is better, and

better for you.
