It seems that whenever I need to paint something but can't quite figure out what it is I want to paint, I end up painting something from Japan.
This is a painting based on a picture I took during my class trip with Tokiwagi Gakuen high school in Japan. We visited various historic sites, and
one of them was this place, Itsukushima shrine on Miyajima island (now Itsukushima, as the two cities merged shortly after I visited in fall 2004).
It's most famous for it's "floating" torii gate, which is out in the bay and appears to float at high tide. The rest of the shrine is just as lovely,
though, and I think I even enjoyed it more than the pictures of the gate I took.
