Butterfly Triptych
Media: Watercolor, acrylic ink on clayboard
Size: 3 6x6" panels
Original: $100
So, lately I've been itching to paint fish. I'm not really sure why, except they're pretty and full of crazy colors. And yesterday, tired of working on
commissions, I grabbed these panels and sat down and sketched out a painting. And then I started painting. And then I painted some more. And
more. It wouldn't leave me alone-- every time I took a break, I eventually came back and sat down to do more work on it. And sometime late in the
evening it was done.
The fish featured here are (so the websites tell me) two copperband butterfly fish and a mitratus butterfly fish. The corals were based on reference
but more or less made up after that. It's also possible that these two species of fish live nowhere near each other. I have no idea. They just made
for a pretty painting.
There will likely be more fish, as I found many pictures of species I'd like to paint.
